Mission
The Nevada State Railroad Museum Boulder City interprets the story of railroading and the importance of transportation systems to Nevada’s history and culture for the enrichment of all who visit through the acquisition, preservation, and exhibition of railroad history artifacts.
MUSEUM DISPLAY PAVILION
The museum’s main display pavilion is an outdoor area containing two tracks with multiple locomotives and pieces of rolling stock on display. The display pavilion is open daily between 9:00am and 3:30pm and is closed for state holidays. This is a self-guided area with interpretive signs both inside and outside cars for your information.
EXCURSION TRAIN RIDES
Train rides are offered Saturdays and Sundays year-round. Travel behind one of our historic diesel-electric locomotives in early 20th century rail cars along the original Boulder City Branch Line. This 9 mile round-trip between Boulder City and Railroad Pass last approximately 45 minutes.
LIVE STEAM RAILROAD
This 7.5″ gauge railroad offers rides on the second and fourth Saturday of each month September through May. The Live Steam railroad does not run in summer due to excessive heat.
MODEL RAILROAD CAR
The model railroad car is located by the exit to the museum display pavilion behind the ticket office. The car contains an HO and O scale layout and is open to the public on most weekends between 10:00am and 3:30pm.
MUSEUM STORE
The museum store is open 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays and Sundays. You can find railroad and Nevada themed merchandise, including specialty apparel for the museum and its collection.
MAINTENANCE FACILITY
The museum houses a two track maintenance and restoration shop located on the west end of the museum campus. An overhead crane, work pit, and machine shop help our crews keep our excursion train in working order and the capability to facilitate future restoration projects. This area is closed to the public.
