Frequently Asked Questions

The Nevada Southern Railway excursion train runs Saturdays and Sundays at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. The 2pm and 4pm trains may not run June-September due to extreme heat.

The Live Steamers run the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, starting at 10 AM. The Live Steamers do not run during the months of January, July, or August.

The Passenger platform is just across the railroad tracks from the parking lot. There is a marked pedestrian crossing near Yucca Street.

The Display Pavilion is open daily 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Closed State Holidays, subject to staff availability. Trains only run on weekends.

The only drink on regularly scheduled train runs allowed is water. You may bring other drinks onto the train if and only if they are secured in a screwed top lid container. No food is allowed onto regularly scheduled train runs.

Pets are not allowed to be on the train, except for service animals. Please note, if you are travelling with your pet and you stop by the museum, we advise not leaving the animal in the car, and we will make accommodations while you are on the ride.

The round-trip excursion lasts for approximately 40 minutes.

The train goes on a round-trip excursion through the Eldorado Valley, beginning westward from Boulder City Depot and ending just past the Railroad Pass Casino at the intersection of US-95/US-93. The total distance is approximately 7 miles.

At this time the only exhibit space we have is under the Display Pavilion on the east side of Yucca Street. The building across the street on the west side is our maintenance facility, and is generally not opened to the public. Plans for future buildings are currently being developed. Parking is available in front of display pavilion on the east side of Yucca Street. The west side of Yucca Street is reserved for museum staff, volunteers on the weekends. RV’s can find additional parking just south of the main parking lot with larger accommodations.

No! The only mandatory payment is for the excursion train run. Exhibits and other attractions are provided for free (though donations are appreciated!).

If the museum is display pavilion is locked during normal business hours, we are likely closed due to a state holiday.

You need to be at least 16 years of age or older to volunteer on your own. The museum does maintain an Explorer Post through Scouts of America for those between 10 and 16 years of age.
